What's the best way to be anti Ebay?

moroccan clothing
Michelle J asked:

Due to Ebay's continual seller fee increases and overall treatment to the sellers, I am closing my Ebay store. I am interested in going elsewere. I offer beautiful moroccan cotton clothing for Med - plus size women and cool gypsy/harem pants. As consumers, I would like to know where would be the best selling site (online auction) to put these lovely items? Where else do you go besides Ebay? Thanks for your help.

good luck

there are no other sites with as big name recognition & popularity as ebay.

I saw the fee increases and thought they were reasonable. Raise your prices by 50 cents & keep selling on ebay

I would love to know the answer to this question… I have recently done the same and now have my own independent site and I am trying to direct traffic to my store. Its hard…but I have to say I don't miss the fees.

yahoo has an auction site.. just do a yahoo search with "auctions". they do not do as much traffic but there is no charge for putting up the item for bid, I think. There is also an overstock.com auction site, but I'm not sure how that works.
you're right about ebay, the fees are high but somehow ppl buy stuff at least .. and there a lot of ppl with money out there. I'm sorry about that (your merchandise sounds wonderful) but Ebay really is the best to get the most hits.

I wish I had some options for you, but I don't. I'm just answering to let you know that I agree with you about the amount they charge in seller's fees. It's ridiculous and outrageous. I will never sell a big ticket item through them again. I'm afraid that eBay will end up losing a lot of good sellers over this. Maybe you could open up your own web page and see if that takes off.

I love etsy.com. It is an online marketplace only for items you make yourself — you didn't say whether you make your own stuff. I don't know how much traffic they have yet, but it's great, the fees are cheap, and personally I've done pretty well there so far. Of course I still sell a lot more on eBay, they just bring more eyes to look at stuff.

If your in Australia, I've tried most of the other auction sites…and they are dead water!
Kiwi site 'trademe' is a good one if you live in New Zealand, and I've noticed a few more aussie sellers heading there lately. I might give it a try myself!
However, EBay has the majority of the traffic - and traffic is what you need to sell your goods…dam it!
